About Us

Hope Life Center

Hope Life Center was the dream of Mark and Laura Petigoue, our founders, long before it developed into the organization it is today. Our beginning was very humble, at her kitchen sink in 1983 Laura was listening to a radio program discussing the needs of women who find themselves either in a crisis pregnancy or hurt by an abortion experience. This single program led Laura on a search for ways to help find alternatives to abortion and unwanted pregnancies, by addressing the cause, problems and misconceptions of those who face them.

In 1984 Laura and others who shared her vision began to hold prayer meetings. A Board of Directors was established, and in October 1985 the Twin City Crisis Pregnancy Center was incorporated. It wasn’t until February 17, 1986 that the doors were officially opened. Our first location was located at 307 First Ave., Suite 302. (Above Waldos Restaurant downtown Sterling)

In December of 1986, we moved to 501 E. 4th street. (Across from the then Hardees restaurant) It was while we were at this location that we changed our name to Hope Crisis Pregnancy Center. Our new name described our goal to be a source of hope to those who would need it.

By August 1992 it was necessary for us to find a new place. We were able to relocate to 208 Brink Circle, in the Pathway’s Building by the Post Office.

In November of 1994 a satellite office was opened in Dixon at 404 N. Galena Ave. where it is still presently located.

By 1995 we found ourselves once again having “growing pains”. This forced us to relocate to our present site at 2323 East Lincolnway Sterling. (Next to Blackhawk Bowling Lanes and down the road from McDonald’s).

In the 20 plus years we have been open, we have seen over 5000 women and men, given away many maternity and baby clothing and items. Over the years we have developed many programs to help meet the needs of any client that walks through our doors.

Our services are free of charge and confidential. We are funded by local churches and individuals. We are always in need of more supporters and volunteers. Contact us if this is a ministry that you think God is calling you to be a part of to make a difference?
